Capcom has unveiled Devil May Cry 5's training mode, dubbed The Void.
During Microsoft's XO18 event, Capcom showed footage of The Void alongside Nero's Devil Breakers.
The Void is designed for newcomers to experiment with enemies, weapons, moves and combos, and for more proficient players to master the combat. There's a bit of a fighting game training mode about The Void, too, with a few settings options that let you tweak what the AI's doing, such as turning enemy damage off.

As part of the XO18 livestream presentation, Capcom showed off a new mode for Devil May Cry 5, as well as a few new Devil Breakers.
The new mode, known as The Void, allows players to practice combos at their leisure. Unlike other "waiting areas" in games like DmC: Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, this is a dedicated mode and lets you modify a number of parameters in order to cook up some seriously creative combos and share them online, similar to the training modes in fighting games. You can experiment with different moves, display the amount of damage different combos deal, and use whatever Devil Breakers you want, and give them infinite uses.
Speaking of Devil Breakers, we got a look at a few new ones, including a few deluxe ones. The Gerbera GP01 sacrifices the original's ability to repel projectiles, but increased mobility options, allowing you to instantly dash up or down, depending on your position. The Past Breaker, which is a metallic arm with a fork on its business end, allows you to cycle your other Devil Breakers. Sweet Surrender allows you to heal three bars of health if you can pull off its break gauge move. Finally, we got to see the previously-announced Mega Buster allows you to shoot energy bullets like the Blue Bomber, and also changes most of Nero's animations - his dodge, for example, turns into a Mega Man's iconic slide. Catch all of these new tools in action in the extended trailer below.
Devil May Cry 5 launches on March 8.

Developer Hinterland has announced that it's delaying the release of sub-zero survival game The Long Dark's third Wintermute story episode. It will no longer be launching in December, as had originally been anticipated.
Episode Three, which follows on from the last year's duo of opening chapters, continues the adventures of Dr. Astrid Greenwood, and will include new survivors, a new region to explore, plus new details on the First Flare event that engulfed Great Bear Island in the endless winter. However, writing , The Long Dark director Raphael van Lierop explained that the studio has chosen to delay its release "to add more content and polish".
This, van Lierop explained, follows a number of new hires from the now-defunct Capcom Vancouver (Hinterland says it's also looking to bring on ex-Telltale staff with a narrative background), enabling the developer to significantly expand its team. The new art, animation, and programming talent - not to mention the acquisition of Capcom Vancouver's motion capture equipment - has made "a huge difference to what [the studio] can accomplish in Episode Three", and Hinterland says it intends to take full advantage of these new abilities.
